This Monday, Monday Night Magic: Close-Up & In-Person returns to the intimate private dining room of Monte's Trattoria, a 100 year-old Greenwich Village landmark, for an evening that will genuinely be something special.

Will Fern is a New Jersey hometown hero and International Champion of Strolling Magic who just dazzled a very special audience at Lincoln Center. Sharp, original, and wickedly funny, Will has headlined the Magic Castle, the Chicago Magic Lounge, and performs regularly aboard the prestigious Crystal Cruise line. Seeing him this close is a rare treat.

Peter Samelson, christened "the soft-spoken conceptualist of sorcery" by the New York Times, and called a living legend by Penn Jillette himself — doesn't just perform magic. He helps you see it. A Stanford-educated artist, philosopher, and producer of Monday Night Magic, Peter has created wonder for millions across the globe, on Broadway, and on stages from Kenya to the Magic Castle.

Mystery and Wonder: A Legacy of Golden Age Magicians in New York City

Now open through July 11, 2026

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a surge of magicians began to refine their art, finding larger audiences and building communities of practice. This period has come to be known as the Golden Age of Magic. The history of magic and magicians has long been documented through text and image as a form of theater by the Billy Rose Theatre Division.

The new exhibition Mystery and Wonder: A Legacy of Golden Age Magicians in New York City displays the library's rich and historic archival materials related to the art of magic and the fascinating lives of magicians performing in New York City during the Golden Age.
